ABOUT ME

Transforming my life through a low carb and keto lifestyle

and Hello!  I’m Claire, the founder of That D Word and I’m a passionate about sharing my story with other Type 2 Diabetics like myself.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2013, I found myself in a place I’d never been before – I was seriously unwell.   I struggled with my blood sugars and unwanted weight gain, despite trying a multitude of different diets.

Something needed to change.

After looking around online I stumbled upon the low carb and keto diets and That D Word was born.  Now I am sharing my journey to shed some pounds and get my blood sugars under control.

Living with Type 2 Diabetes

The Journey of Many Twists and Turns

Living with Type 2 Diabetes is like having a full time job.  In my case I have to take insulin to manage my blood sugar.  This means needles, a blood glucose monitor and constantly being vigilant for being too high or low throughout the day.

WHEN I HAD MY FIRST WAKE UP CALL

Being Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2013

I had the classic symptoms of Type 2.  From feeling super thirsty, having to pee way more than normal, feeling exhausted for no reason, yeast infections which were terrible and blurred vision.

MAKING CHANGES TO REVERSE TYPE 2 DIABETES

IT TOOK 4 MONTHS IN 2017

Never mind that it was back in 2017 when I managed this major accomplishment.  I was to have surgery and needed to lose weight and get my blood sugar under control.  I did this by going low carb/keto.

CHANGES THAT WERE NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING

With learning more about going low carb and keto, the results were lifechanging.  Not only did I start to shed the pounds that had been holding me back for so long, but my blood sugar also started to stabilize.  I felt better, had more energy, and it seemed that I won the golden ticket.

I really felt that if more people who had Type 2 like myself were able to give low carb and keto a try – it would be life changing.

What I learned through that journey sparked my desire to get the word out.  To share what I’d learned and help others who might be facing similar struggles.  I am now here to share my journey, what I’ve learned, recipes to help you make better choices and resources to just make this as easy as possible!

Here’s to taking the first step towards a healthier and happier you!

MAKING CHANGES

Discover the health benefits

Going low carb can have a multitude of health benefits that include improving your blood sugar control, weight management, reduced risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.  You can also see a marked increase in energy levels and improved mental clarity.

Weight Loss

Low carb diets can be very effective for weight loss, as they help control hunger and cravings.  This in turn will reduce your overall calorie intake and promote fat burning.  By focusing on nutrient-dense foods and minimizing processed carbohydrates, you can achieve weight loss.

Your Metabolic Health

By reducing reliance on carbohydrates as the primary fuel source and encouraging the body to burn fat for energy, low carb diets can promote metabolic flexibility.  This means your body becomes more efficient at utilizing both dietary and stored fat as fuel.  Leading to improved energy, and better overall metabolic health.
